Fresh Ideas for Seasonal Produce

It’s safe to say that fall foods are in full swing at Farmer’s Markets, restaurants, and your favorite coffee shop. At ILC we are no different, featuring local apples from Maryland’s Colora and Rinehardt Orchards in our cafes. Whether they are being incorporated into dishes on the hot bar like Braised Chicken with Apple and Cabbage, enjoyed in a housemade salad such as our Apple Dijon Slaw, or as an indulgent treat in our apple crumble or cobbler, you won’t want to miss these apples!

We are lucky to live in an area that yields a plethora of other delicious fall produce such as: Asian pears, asparagus, beets, cabbage, grapes, greens, herbs, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins, squash, and sweet potatoes. As the season continues, we challenge you to try something new like a kabocha squash or roasting your own pumpkin for puree instead of purchasing it in a can. Why is it so important to enjoy local, seasonal foods? Not only do these foods taste better and support the local agricultural economy, but eating locally grown foods in their peak season offers increased nutrient content so that you can truly get the most out of each bite.
